LC 33 Hiking Challenge

If you’re here for a few days or up to a week and are a hiking enthusiast we suggest taking part in the LC33 Hiking Challenge.

A hiking challenge in Lewis County, NY – the Adirondacks Tug Hill Region. To participate in the hiking challenge – download the LC33 Hiking Challenge form (HERE) and get to hiking on our beautiful trails!

Hike thirty three miles of our approved hiking trails (listed below) and turn in your form and the $5 submission fee when you’ve finished to receive your letter of completion and LC33 award!

Please remember to respect the trails while out hiking and to leave no trace behind.

For Foodies

The Lewis County Cuisine Trail

The Lewis County Cuisine Trail travels through back roads to the Villages of Lowville, Croghan, Castorland and Copenhagen and showcases locally sourced and produced foods unique to the area. From goat farms, to cow dairies, to farmer owned cooperatives, the International Maple Museum, famous Croghan Bologna, and restaurants carrying local products, the Lewis County Cuisine Trail offers a little bit for everyone.

With the rolling hills, beautiful terrain, and swift changes of the seasons that bring an assortment of colors, take a drive along the trail and be enriched with the Lewis County culture and history. Once you’re here – you’ll be hooked.

Lewis County is home to rivers, creeks, lakes, and ponds crisscrossing and with all these waterways and the changing elevation in the county we have many waterfalls to see – both big and small.

If you’re looking for waterfalls to visit we suggest the following to visit during your stay here in the Adirondacks Tug Hill Region.

Lewis County OHV Trail

Bring your own OHV or rent one here – and enjoy hundreds of miles of trails!

As the only county owned OHV Trail system Lewis County has hundreds of miles of trails and off-season roads that offer a different terrain for every preference.

The Lewis County Trail System is categorized into three types. Town and county roads provide easy access to the off-road trails. The off-road trails, consisting of county reforestation areas and private landowners’ trails, offer Trail riders a sense of adventure as they explore the many miles of wilderness.

In order to ride on the trails in Lewis County all riders must have a trail permit. Find out more about permits and the trails on the Lewis County Recreation Forestry and Parks website.

As OHV enthusiasts, it is very important that to respect the lands, laws, wildlife and nature as you enjoy the trails and scenery.
