A Message from our Board of Directors

Chamber Members,
Change is in the air. For a few brief moments we all felt the warmth of spring weather and the excitement of a new season. As I sit here typing this, the spring warmth has fled and, in its place, a North Country blanket of white stares at me. My sense of excitement and renewal hasn’t been dampened by this minor snowy inconvenience, it has left me dreaming and planning for my family’s spring and early summer adventures.
As I think of all my family wants to do and accomplish, I look to our many local businesses to plan where to start. I was asked to write about a business I frequent and enjoy, but I realized after tracking all of the Chamber Members that I have come in contact with over the last two weeks, I simply couldn’t choose one, or two or three. Even during business hours, I cannot concentrate on just one business as Lewis County has so many to offer. During the past two weeks, I suggested that my Summer Youth participants contact no less than 10 local businesses for internship opportunities. A quick shout out to Double Play, Lewis County Search and Rescue, and Lewis County Recreation, Forestry and Parks for being so easy to work with!
Even outside of business hours, my family tries our best to support local foods and purchase locally whenever we can. The recent warm weather meant grilling season was officially open and a quick trip to Millers for Chicken and Monnat’s Country Store for Paulie’s jerked pork were in order. To make our shopping trip complete, we had to purchase Black River Valley Chocolate milk for my kiddos and some butter for mom; each local product making our meal a locally sourced and tasty one to boot!
We recently had family visiting and as always, our dinner conversations turn to food and shopping. Thank you to Jebs Restaurant for a great meal and service and to Lowville Dairy Producers for always having all the snack options our visitors love {Croghan Bologna and Cheese Curd}. A trip to the Farmhouse Boutique and the West Martinsburg Mercantile netted us some local pottery, decorations, and laughter as “us girls” enjoyed our time together.
We are ended our time with family by planning for a visit to the Town Hall Theater when it opens; future trips to all of our favorite landscaping centers for flowers, shrubs & advice on how to save our split birch tree, and a trip to Sherwin Williams for help with paint colors to spruce up camp. Sitting around the table together, we generated too many to count camp logos, all with hopes that Mag’s Creations can make our ideas a reality. Each idea and future plan makes us more excited for what Lewis County has to offer.
My family shops locally, we dream & plan for the future locally and we work locally. I am so incredibly blessed to be able to list just a few of the businesses my family frequents and supports each season in Lewis County. Why not start your new season in Lewis County?

Stay well, Lisa Hetzner
