Your Guide to Summer Events in Tug Hill: What Not to Miss This July

There are two kinds of summer weekends.

The ones where you spend half of Saturday asking, “So…what do you want to do?”

And the ones where your calendar is already full of live music, local food, county fair traditions, outdoor adventures, and events that somehow turn into memories you’ll talk about all winter.

If you’re spending time in Tug Hill this July, we recommend the second option.

From community traditions and family-friendly fun to unique local experiences you won’t find anywhere else, here’s what’s happening around the region this month.

Lewis County Fair

July 14–19, 2026

For generations, the Lewis County Fair has been one of the highlights of summer in Northern New York.

Livestock shows. Midway rides. Agricultural exhibits. Live entertainment. Fair food you’ll spend the rest of the year thinking about.

Whether you’re bringing the kids, meeting friends, or reliving your own fair memories, it’s one of those events that feels like summer should.

Why we love it: It’s equal parts community tradition and summer nostalgia.

Food Truck Fridays

Throughout the Summer

If your perfect summer evening involves great food, live music, and not cooking dinner, Food Truck Fridays deserve a spot on your calendar.

Gather with locals and visitors alike as some of the region’s favorite food trucks roll into Lowville for an evening of good food, local flavors, and community connection.

Why we love it: It’s basically a community picnic with better options.

NYSWA Watercross Series: Smoke on the Water

July 11 & 12, 2026

Yes, that’s a snowmobile.

Yes, it’s racing on water.

And yes, it’s every bit as entertaining as it sounds.

The New York State Watercross Association returns to Tug Hill for Smoke on the Water, bringing high-speed action, impressive skill, and plenty of excitement to the region.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or seeing it for the first time, Watercross is one of those uniquely Tug Hill experiences you won’t soon forget.

Can’t make the July event? The series continues throughout the summer with the NYS Championship on August 8 & 9 and a final event on September 12 & 13.

Why we love it: Because nowhere else do you get to watch snowmobiles race across a lake in the middle of July.

Hopenhagen Farm Lavender Festival

July 11, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

If your ideal summer day is a little slower paced, make plans to visit the Lavender Festival at Hopenhagen Farm.

Spend the day strolling through blooming lavender fields, shopping local vendors, enjoying food and drinks, and taking in some of the most beautiful scenery of the season.

Bring your camera, your friends, or simply enjoy a quiet day surrounded by the sights and scents of summer.

Why we love it: It feels like stepping into a postcard.

Between the Events

The best part about summer in Tug Hill isn’t just the events themselves.

It’s everything in between.

Spend your mornings hiking Whetstone Gulf State Park. Cool off in a creek. Explore local wineries and farm markets. Set up camp for the weekend. Browse a local shop. Find a quiet place to watch the sunset.

Then wake up and do it all again.

Turn One Event Into a Weekend

One of our favorite Tug Hill travel tips?

Don’t just come for the event.

Come for the weekend.

Book a campsite, stay in a cabin, or find a cozy place to stay and build an entire getaway around your plans. A Friday night at Food Truck Fridays can turn into a Saturday hike. A trip to the Lewis County Fair can become a full weekend of exploring the region.

The best memories are usually the ones that weren’t rushed.
